 Bulb neck codd in the larger size embossed "F.Marden Burton on Trent".Trade mark is entwined initials.

 


 

 
 Early c1875 Narrow necked Codd.Embossing to front states
Codds Patent 4 London,with "J.Lewthwaite Egremont"down The sides ,around the base it states that the bottle was made at the Ben Rylands Bottleworks Ardsley.Not too hard to find these, but this one is in superb almost prestine condition ,which makes it a fine bottle.

  Dawsons Norwich 6oz Green Codd.  

 Dexhagonal  Dexhagonal Codd Burgh le marsh.

  Emerald Green standard codd in the 6oz size from the Scarborough and Whitby breweries.Has an embossed trade mark of two dolphins.Scarce  

    Wray and Ward Corbett St
Manchester.This one slightly unusual in that it has both a pale blue marble and a reinforcing ring of glass around the lip.

 Blue lip Acme patent from the firm of W.Wright.
Front embossed:-W.Wright mineral water manufr Long Eaton.Rear:-Rylands acme patent,makers,Dan Ryland Barnsley.The acme patent differs from the reliance in that
whilst both patents share the same reliance type stopper lugs,the acme has 2 additional lugs on the front and back of the stopper chamber,these were to help keep the marble in one place to help with the cleaning process.

   J Eckersley Bolton.Blue top.
Another more common blue lip.
coloured lips were offered to the drink manufacturers as a way for them to pick out thier own bottles from amongst others and also to help prevent rival companys relabeling other peoples bottles and using them as thier own.
The bottle makers ensured that no two colours were in use by different companys in the same area.There were several colour tops in use as well as blue,puce,green,amber and black were available for a small extra charge per dozen.

 Large size Dobsons patent embossed "Davies&Co Hereford" trade mark is entwined initials.

 

   Keystone Codd in amber.
Heavily embossed with warnings about unauthorised re-use or damage to the bottle,bottom of bottle has fluted panels all the way round,which instantly differenciates it from other codd bottles.

 Early neck green dumpy codd embossed "De Snelle sprong Tegelen" with a pictorial of a Maid pouring water jugs from under each arm.Rare.

 

 

 Robt Stephenson Gateshead.Amber dumpy codd,c1880.Quite a rare one, however due to a small internal crack this one not as desirable as it might be.

Tuly st is in Barnstaple Devon.The
Dornat factory was situated on the site that the library presently occupies

 Harrods  Harrods serves the world pictorial embossed soda,Internal screw top.

 Meadowcroft patent-internal screw.This example embossed"Denwood and sons-mineral waters Carlisle" with a pictorial trade mark of Queen victoria. C1895-1900.

 Bullet Lamot patent

 Dumpy aqua lamot from P.H.Murrat Manchester c1890,s
entwined initials as trade mark.

   Leigh and Co Salford,Small amber Bullet.


   Lyons-Liverpool Snowdrop patent.The half pint size is scarcer than the pint but both are fairly easy to find.

 As above only the Codd closure version.Has two reinforcing rings of glass around lip,slightly earlier than the two above.

 

   Barrett & Ellers "stick bottle"
Embossed to front "Barrett&Co Manchester""patent stopper trade mark"and to rear "Barrett&Ellers patent London"with "Lumb&Co makers Castleford" around the base.C1900.

 

 Maughams Patent Carrera Water,embossed in a ribbon around the bottle with Registered 31 May 1845 around the shoulder.This one probably dates to around 1850.

 
 Sykes Macvay,patented 22 feb 1877 by W W Macvay &R Sykes.Embossing to front reads "spotted ox stores Bradford" to rear "Waller&Smith Bradford" around base"Patent 1877 Sykes Macvay&Co makers Castleford".This bottle has 6 dimples in the base to hold the loose in bottle marble,whilst the drink was poured.

 Prmier patent.Has four lugs around the shoulder to retain a marble which is loose in the main body of the bottle.This example embossed "Codds premier-sole makers -Codd and Rylands-Barnsley.C1885-90

 

   Eiffel Tower Lemonade,Foster and Clark Maidstone Kent.These are extremely common but this one has a lot more colour than most I have seen.I think it held lemonade crystals rather than ready to drink liquid.

 
 Hybrid Codd/Hamilton early neck,embossed to front "Newling New +" to rear "Codd patent $ Barnett&Foster sole agents London N".Scarce in this sort of condition.

 
 Wooden Codd bottle opener,the internal dowel pushed the marble into the neck of the bottle releasing the pressure.These available in several varieties with ones containing writing or instructions being the most desirable.
