| Sheared lip bottles were made by allowing a bubble of molten glass to burst outside of the mould,this had the benefit of speeding up the manufacturing process,whilst providing a sharp edge that the cork could "bite" into thereby improving the seal. |

While not a shear lip,Ive included this
Terezol because of its ground lip.As you can see it has an external
screw thread,It has been blown in mould and then the lip ground
off.It,s embossed "Terezol for polishing furniture"and a reg No on the base dating it to 1899.I am not sure, but this must be one of the first examples of external screw threading. |
